The pages that are submitted should link to the rest of the pages. Google indexes the full text that is visible on any page that it crawls. It generally does not index the metatags – keywords ordescriptions. When Google lists your page in the search results, the description that is displayed is the extract of text that is around the first line where the search word appears on the page. It may thus be a good idea to write a good description of the page and build it around the most likely search term(s) and place that near the top of your page.You should remember that one sure way of getting your site listed and indexed is if there are several links that point to your site and such links appear on web pages that in turn have several other links pointing to them. The term “link popularity” is used for this. It analyzes links of the pages that it has visited and this “link analysis”helps to determine the ranking of the page. Google uses a proprietary PageRank algorithm for determining relevance and ranking of pages in the search results. Location and frequency of the search term on your web page are no doubt factors inranking; however, off-the-page factors such as link analysis are more important. Generally, Google provides search results based on relevancy, meaning that it returns a list of pages ranked by the number of other web pages linking to each page, as well as other mathematical algorithms.

Yahoo! offers a human-powered directory and offers its results to visitors. The directory is an important channel in the area of search engine marketing. It is popular and is used extensively by people to locate sources of information. Moreover, the directory is a valuable boost to your site for crawling and ranking in other search engines, as the directory provides a high-quality link to your website. When a visitor is looking for information on relevant sites, she could either browse through the hierarchy of directories and subdirectoriesor search for an appropriate directory through a search interface. As your site can be listed in just one category, generally, the choice of category is an important step. Choose the top category that your target visitor who is making a search may select out of the different categories offered to him/her. Select your target keywords and find out which categories relate to those keywords. For submission of non-commercial sites, the Yahoo! Express submission is recommended rather than the Standard submission option. The results page in your chosen category will list your site in two possible sections (for most categories). One section is called "Most Popular Sites" and this is on top, while the second section contains the remaining listings in Alphabetical order. Yahoo! does not reveal how it includes certain sites in the “MostPopular Sites” list. However, link analysis and click-throughs are likely to be factors. You cannot pay to be included in this section. Certain sites with sunglasses shown next to their name or an “@” symbol shown at the end of the name reflect that Yahoo! considers those sites to be excellent.

Inktomi (MSN Search, AOL Search, Hotbot) AddUrl

Inktomi http://www.inktomi.com/ is a search engine that does not offer its search services through its own site, but through Partner sites – prominent ones being MSN Search, AOL Search, HotBot and others. Inktomi, through its crawler, creates three different indexes. “Best of the Web” index has around 110 million pages that it indexes on the web and considers high in link analysis. The next set of around 390 million pages is indexed as “Rest of the Web”, considered as lower in link analysis. The third index is of paid inclusion. It also offers specialized regional indexes as well as targeted news, multimedia and directory indexes. It avoids duplication of the same page in more than one index. Link crawling and paid inclusion are the two most effective ways to get covered by crawling. For bulk submissions to its paid program, it offers IndexConnect (for 1000 or more pages). Again, there is a cost-per-click basis with a monthly minimum. Ranking at Inktomi is determined by a combination of factors including HTML links, keywords and description tags near the top of the page or in the title tag. If the search string matches with what is found at these places on the page, the ranking is higher. Link analysis and analysis of clickthroughs are other important criteria that it adopts.

but it also has paid inclusion features. Generally, their crawler may visit every four weeks. Paid inclusion may be desirable if you have a new website or web pages or if you alter your web pages frequently, and you do not wish to wait until the next cycle of crawling. There is an “Express Paid” inclusion service of self-service type for up to 500 pages at a time. This service will enable weekly crawling. Their bulk program called “Trusted Feed” will enable the pages to be directly linked to their index. Pricing for “Trusted Feed” is on a cost-per-click model with a monthly minimum. In this program you can submit the Meta data, descriptions and keywords directly to the index. Nevertheless, the engine will check whether the destination page hasthe same Meta data or not and could levy a penalty for spam. AltaVista’s ranking policies are a combination of various factors. The frequency and positioning of keywords and descriptions is important, as are title tags or words that appear near the top of the page. AltaVista applies link analysis to determine relevancy and page ranking. It levies penalty on spamming and does not recognize invisible or tiny text, keyword stuffing, identical pages, mirror sites, or quick meta refresh tags.

Where To Submit:

I would recommend submitting your home page to the major search engines individually, at least initially. However, there are several services that do groups of them for you - and is a big time saver for the rest of your site. The following is one of my favorites: FreeWebSubmission.com. I have always deselected Google, though, since I submit to them manually through the Google website. I submit my web pages to the following search engines manually (without a special tool) just to ensure that it is done.

You will need a Yahoo account to submit to the Yahoo search engine. And don't fret if you don't see immediate results. Your site should normally exist in MSN within about 6 weeks, in Yahoo in 8-12 weeks, and in Google within about 3 months. (You will not likely get much search results from Google for the first year though - but hold out and keep working on the other tricks. In the long run, Google will normally give you about 60 - 70% of the search engine traffïc if you follow these methods.)

Also, if you have the Alexa toolbar installed, navigate to your website and clïck on the "info" button on the toolbar. Then you will have to fill in information about your website. Once this is registered, you will start seeing how your website's Alexa rating looks. There have been some rumors that Google considers the Alexa description in its searches - so make sure it is relevant to your website as a whole and has at least one of your keywords.

You should also submit your website to DMOZ. This is a massive directory that is republished in several other websites. It is managed by humans, and is therefore considered to be of special relevance by other search engines. I strongly recommend reading all their rules before submitting - and follow them closely. Make sure that you try to get listed in only one category - the most relevant one for your business. It can take a month or two to get listed, but it really helps with your backlinks and overall relevancy as a website..

A Linking Strategy

Alright, now, we're going to discuss the one, quite possibly most important element to ranking well in Google - the # of incoming links. Google has been giving more and more importance to what they call their "PR" - short for Page Rank. The PR is based on a scale of 1-10 and the higher it is, the more incoming links you have.

The PR is determined by the number of INCOMING and OUTGOING links you have. You should have the maximum number of incoming links.

See, Google's theory is that by having a site link to you, that website is basically "voting" for you - that site is telling Google:

"Hey, I like that website, it has good content, I feel comfortable sending MY visitors there, so should you..."

The more sites that tell Google that, the more willing Google is to send its’ traffic. So, bottom line, recruit incoming links.

NOTE: A linking strategy is VERY important if you want any chance at making it to the Top 10 page on Google and then staying there...

1. Have you twittered or tweeted lately? Well start now, if you have not already got a Twitter account my suggestion is to sign up today. Get yourself a lovely Twitter name as your website address, and in your profile provide a lovely link to your URL. After this, go and find 50 people (in any industry – some people would say you must be focussed, but at the end of the day you just want your site listed – so find 50 people in any topic area), follow them and then sure as mustard within a few hours some of them will be following you back. Why doe this help? Because new Twitter accounts invariably get listed in record time, and the more people following you the higher the chances of that being picked up. Then your link to your website sees the spiders (that’s the search engine spiders by the way!) racing to it.

2. Free press release site, yes yes, you have heard it all before. Use press releases to get your website listed yarda yarda yarda. Well listen up, because I am going to give you one HUGE tip and recommendation, write yourself a nice little press release. It doesn’t matter if your English is bad, is worse than bad or is just downright awful. Simply do your best, right a nifty little announcement about your site going LIVE on such and such a date, what’s its about and how great it is. Make sure you provide links in the press release to your site, just 2 links will be more than enough. Then go and search for some “free press release” submission sites and deliver your brand spanking new announcement release to about 10 of these free PR sites. Don’t pay a dime if your intention is just to get your site listed, you don’t actually want the publicity – you just want the listing, and this really does work.

3. Got any buddies with websites, can you buy them a beer for a link? If you know anyone else with a website that has a fair few visitors ask them to put up a link to your website until it gets listed. This is a tried and tested method – and the more buddies the better!

4. Youtube.com, no you don’t have to upload that latest family video. You can create some new videos using some of Windows own tools! A few graphics created to promote your product, created into a video, uploaded to YouTube.com with a nice link to your URL at the side – lovely.

I could go on, but I think you will find that implanted correctly, selecting just 3 of the above 4 recommendations will safely see your site listed in a couple of days. There are many more variations to the above methods, and with a little thought you can no doubt figure these out yourself – but to train your thought, think Dailymotion and Myspace and all the other sites that follow the same theme and come in between.

If you are a fan of search engine submission links provided for free by the search engines, then there of course is absolutely no harm in using them. And you could of course you always pay a company to do it for you, but if you want to show all your friends and colleagues just how clever you are at getting your domain name listed so quickly just give the above a shot….

These are not ways or mechanisms to get top rankings, these are not way to suddenly drive hundreds and thousands of new visitors to your website. 8 Important SEO Techniques To Kickstart Your Website

When you are starting a website or blog, it is important to have your search engine optimizing techniques ready. Search Engine Optimizing (SEO) is important, because if SEO is implanted correctly, the search engines supply a large number of visitors for your site.

But where do you start? What are the most important factors? Today, you will learn how to kickstart your new website or blog using a few very important Search Engine Optimizing techniques.

1. Structure

Search engines follow links. Links to other sites, but also when you link to your own pages or articles, the search engines follow them. That’s how they notice and index new pages on your site.

This is one reason to organize your articles, categories and pages in a structural way. A search engine (and even more important, your visitor) needs to know how to navigate through your website. It needs to know where to find the information they want to find. If they can’t, the search engine won’t index your page correctly.

That’s why you should make the structure and the navigation on your website as logic and organized as possible.

2. Title

The title of your site is very important for multiple reasons. A good title gives a visitor a clue where he’s located, but the most important value of your title tag is the search engine purpose.

The search engines put a lot of value in these titles. The first words in your title are the most important for ranking higher, but it is also important to grab the attention of the visitor when he is scanning the search engine results. It’s therefore important to put your most important keywords as far upfront as possible, followed by your company/blog name.

My titles usually look like this:

3. Headings

To make your article or website readable and scan-able for your visitors, you should use headings to separate different parts of your content. Headings have the same purpose for the search engines: they need to know what’s on the page too. When using heading tags effectively, you build structure in your article and you put more value on the most important keywords.

4. Images

Images are a great way to create a better looking article or website. Fortunately, we can also use images to help us in our search engine optimizing strategy.

A tag has a number of options to describe the image:

You have to remember that a search engine is not a visitor, they can’t read the pixels. That’s why we have to describe the image to make sure the search engine knows what the image means. And if we do that correctly, the search engine will display your images in image search queries too.

5. URL’s

When people scan the search engine results pages, they always notice three things. The title, the description and the URL. The position of your result combined with those three factors make the user decide to click the link. It’s important to let the visitor understand where he is going to.

I think that’s a clear choice. Depending on which Content Management System (CMS) you use, you will have to options to optimize the URL’s of your content. Here is a tutorial for WordPress and Joomla.

6. Anchor Text

A very important part of linking to other sites and to your own articles is the use of anchor text. If you build a link, they text the visitor has to click is the anchor text.

You can optimize your anchor text so that your visitor and the search engine know where the link is leading to. You have to do that with the use of keywords. Here are two examples:

The first link doesn’t have anything specific that describe the page you are heading when you click the link. The second one explains your visitor and the search engine what happens: you will visit a page on Search Engine Optimizing.

7. Mark Important Keywords

If you have written an article or your site’s content, you are not done. You have to optimize your text for your visitors and for the search engines. Visitors scan your text and read the piece of content that grabs their attention. How can you grab the attention? By using italic text, strong and bold text, underlined text, images, blockquotes and more.

The search engines use some of these attention-grabbers to get the most accurate results for all the keywords. That’s why it is important to highlight the most important keywords. You can use a number of attention-grabbers that serve search engine optimizing purpose too:

tag, so that you can use these tags in your content. After you’ve did that, you can use these

8. Meta Tags

Meta tags are not very important for search engines to rank your website. It is however very important to get good results from the search engine results pages once you are listed. These visitors needs to be pulled in via three things: your page’s title (point 2), the URL (point 5) and your page’s description (this point!).

That’s why I suggest adding the following keywords to all your webpages on your site.
